Back in early 2023, episode #1927 of The Joe Rogan Experience welcomed American biologist and former 'Extinct or Alive' host Forrest Galante. During the pair's conversation, the topic of undoing the extinction of the woolly mammoth came about, which left Rogan astonished.
The woolly mammoth is an extinct elephantid that bears a striking similarity to modern-day elephants. It has become a prominent part of popular media, featuring in various films and TV series, prompting a billion-dollar biotechnology and genetic engineering company called Colossal Biosciences to try and revive it.
This eventually led to a conversation about cloning, causing Rogan to respond with the following:
"Well, you can get your cat cloned or your dog cloned. It's kinda creepy."

Check out Joe Rogan and Forrest Galante talking about cloning and the woolly mammoth revival (1:37:00):
The longtime UFC commentator was left jaw-dropped by the revelation in Colossal Biosciences' developments. However, he also expressed a measure of concern, which his guest Galante more than agreed with. Nevertheless, it is meant to be an effort at helping reintroduce extinct animals to potentially balance out nature.
The woolly mammoth's revival would be an attempt at introducing megafauna to the Arctic tundra to counterbalance carbon emissions. Whether Colossal Biosciences' efforts will succeed remains to be seen, as the company was first launched in 2021 but has yet to make any significant strides known to the public.
The company's goal, though, states that it hopes to have successfully grown a woolly mammoth calf by 2028.
Joe Rogan has developed an interest in another cutting-edge technology company
On episode #2241 of his podcast, Joe Rogan spoke to American psychedelic drug researcher Rick Strassman. As the two men conversed about suicide rates across the globe and likelihood of people taking their own lives in response to certain stimuli, the popular podcaster brought up Neuralink Corp.
The aforementioned company, which was founded by his good friend Elon Musk, is developing brain-computer interfaces to help those suffering from numerous ailments relating to the nervous system and more. This left Rogan wondering if it could be used to treat suicidal inclinations.
"Imagine if we can cure that [suicide] with Elon Musk's Neuralink? Everybody sign up."

For now, though, tackling rising suicide rates does not appear to be Neuralink's main concern.
